This week we'll be interviewing one of Farmington's most outstanding readers, Mantor Library's Head of Reference Services, Laurie MacWhinnie!

KB: So Laurie, if you inherited a box which contained the secret formula for a great read what would be in the box?
Laurie: OMG! Hmmmn. The secret formula for a great read. It would be empty. Then I would be relying on my own imagination rather than relying on things that had already been done.
KB: Great answer! If you could take a vacation inside a book which book would it be?
Laurie: It definitely would have to be Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. You need a lot of adventure and nonsense on your vacation.
KB: Two for two. You are on fire. Okay, Who was the most fun evil villain you've run into lately?
Laurie: Too many to choose from. Oh I know! "The Prince" from Jo Nesbo's books.
KB I couldn't agree more. He made my flesh crawl. Thanks Laurie!

Here they are! Our weekly picks for the two best: two hardcover, two paperback, and two children's books. The very best new arrivals to leap out of the box and onto our shelves this week. Call or email us if you want more information on any of these titles, or to have us hold you a copy. Or stop in and check them out in person. We'd love to see you. Thanks as always for sharing your reading with us!

Dystopias are one of those things which are considerably more fun to read about than to live through. Atwood has made a specialty of them, and The Year of the Flood is centered around her penchant for examining the dangerous interplay of science and sociology, in this case religion. Otis is Loren Long's tribute to the classic picture books of Virginia Lee Burton and Robert Lawson, though I must say that it also strongly reminded me of Dahlov Ipcar's One Horse Farm a childhood favorite for me. It is the tale of Otis the tractor who is replaced by The Big Yellow Tractor and put out to rust. Has he outlived his usefulness? This is the sort of book that kids just fall in love with. ...More
