This week we'll be interviewing Cascade Brook school's beloved librarian Trish Flint!
KB: So Trish, what book do you feel has had the most impact on your readers lately?
Trish: Well many of the boys have loved Peak . A lot of kids have liked Rover by Jackie French. When the fourth graders were read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane they loved that. If anyone is looking for a read aloud that's the book. The illustrations are wonderful. It really is a book to cherish and keep out on your table.
KB: If you could have one author come to your school and meet the kids who would it be?
Trish: Deborah Hopkinson. I've tried to get her but she lives on the west coast. I love her scholarship and how she takes information and puts it into a great read aloud.
KB: Is there any book that came out in the last few years that you thought was awesome but didn't take with the reading public?
Trish: That really is a good question. Hmmm.
Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy I thought was really good, the writing was excellent, but it didn't seem to fly.
KB: What books do you suggest for parents who are struggling to get their 10 -12 year olds to love reading?
Trish: City of Ember series should do the trick. Also, Diary of a Wimpy Kid books really get the kids reading. That won the Maine Student Book Award this year, and that was our kids favorite too.
KB Thanks Trish!
